Communion represents the thesis work for the completion of Winans’ MFA degree at Stamps School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan. This body of work merged the icons of evangelical Christianity and American mythology to explore personal belief and community relationship to nation and religion through the physical deconstruction and re-imagination of pews, flags, and the canon of American art history.
